June 2024
May was a great month for us. We learned this month that we have been shortlisted by the UKWA for the prestigious Logistics Service Provider of the Year award! We were in Liverpool for Procurex National. As ever a jam packed event with speakers from the Cabinet Office and industry. We will all need to be on top of the implications of the 2023 Procurement Act which come into effect in October of this year and so we're sharing the second of our 2-part video series on Public Sector Frameworks, a co-production with Procurement Services. Looking at Team Granby, we all enjoyed a Fish and Chip lunch at Granby HQ this month, a great chance for everyone to relax and enjoy not just the good food but each other's company. Later in June we will be following the exploits of a member of the Client Services team, Declan, who will be taking part in The MacMillan Longest Day golf challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Thank you for all your continued support and partnership and we'll see you for the start of the second half of the year next month!
UKWA Excellence Awards Finalist
We are delighted to announce that Granby has been shortlisted for the Logistics Service Provider of the Year in the UK Warehousing Association Awards for Excellence 2024!
Our submission has earned us a place as a finalist in this prestigious category. This year, the UKWA saw a record number of entries, highlighting the exceptional talent and quality within our industry. The competition was fierce, and so we are honoured to be recognised. We are eagerly anticipating the UKWA Awards for Excellence Annual Lunch at the Royal Lancaster London on July 10th, where the winners will be announced. Stay tuned for updates.
Procurex National 2024 Liverpool Report
In May, Granby were at Procurex National 2024 in Liverpool’s Exhibition Centre where they had the opportunity to meet customers, partners, and suppliers. The buzzword of the event was the Procurement Act 2023, set to be implemented from the end of October this year. Officially supported by Crown Commercial Service, Procurex National 2024 is an annual event that connects buyers and suppliers from across the UK’s public procurement sector. The event not only gives exhibitors and visitors an opportunity to learn about the latest developments shaping the future of the UK’s public procurement sector such as the impact of procurement reform; the growing importance of social value and net zero, and what this means for both buyers and suppliers.
Public Sector Frameworks Webinar 2
We’ve now released the second of our 2-part video series on Public Sector Frameworks, brought to you in collaboration with Procurement Services (formerly KCS Procurement Services). The video looks at procurement in the light of The 2023 Procurement Act which looks to shake up the outdated procurement system to ensure that every pound spent on public procurement goes further for communities and public services, emphasising value for money, public benefit, transparency, and integrity. In this video, Granby’s Victoria Pittman and Procurement Services keep a focus on the implications for the Suppliers, especially SMEs. A link to the first webinar can be found in our May newsletter.
Team Granby Stepping Stones
The Granby Stepping Stones 2024 team took their first steps last month as our next generation of leaders came together for this year’s course. We had a successful course last time around and the Granby team for this year are Ffion Kay (Trevor) ACMA, CGMA, [Finance Manager], Chloe Goss [Client Partner], Tom Barrett [Warehouse team leaders] and Matt Pawlak [Production team leader].
This first session introduced our team to the ‘GROW’ model, which is a great tool for setting and achieving goals. Chloe and Ffion both gave glowing feedback on the GROW model and also on the day as a whole.
Caroline & Victoria at CBP Business Bootcamp
Victoria Pittman, Granby’s Head of Client Services and Business Development, joined Caroline Noblett, Managing Director to attend the Community & Business Partners CIC (CBP) Business Bootcamp event last week at Burnley FC. At this event, Victoria and Caroline had the opportunity to engage with business leaders from across the North West and participate in workshops on topics ranging from the Art of Delegation to eliminating workplace stress.
“Attending the Community & Business Partners Business Bootcamp last week was really valuable in ways I hadn’t anticipated. The workshop on the Art of Delegation were particularly relevant and have already made a positive impact on my approach to leadership. Taking on board the experience of other successful business leaders like David Hammond and Lisa Edge was inspiring” – Victoria Pittman
Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Day Golf Challenge
We are very pleased to share news of a tremendous challenge being taken on by Declan Talbot of our Client Services team. On Friday 28th June, Declan and three friends will attempt the Macmillan Longest Day Golf Challenge, playing 72 holes of golf in just one day! Declan and his team are hoping to raise £1,200 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support funds. This is a personal challenge for Declan but one most of us can relate to and get behind. The team of four (Fore Fellas) willl be walking around 25 miles on the day with the first tee time set for 7am and they aim to be coming down the 72nd around 12 or so hours later. Please take a read, 72 holes of golf in one day is some challenge.
Mental Health and WellBeing Walking the Walk
At Granby, we believe it is crucially important for businesses to encourage their workforce to participate in healthy activities. We have seen first-hand how this can help improve not only physical, but mental wellbeing. In plain terms, we believe it is critical to be seen to be walking the walk. Granby MD, Caroline Noblett joined the walk and said “The walk was a fantastic 5-mile trek around Malham, Malham Cove, and Janet’s Foss with colleagues and family members. The highlight was the amazing weather and company, focusing on well-being and enjoying the fresh air.”
Chippy Dinners all round!
Chippy Dinners for everyone – well, everyone at Team Granby! Yes, Granby shared free Fish and Chips with our amazing Granby team at the end of May. Of course, we all know that fish and chips is loved by just about everyone. Here in Blackburn we know Fish & Chips as a “Chippy Dinner”. Of course, not only was this a great way to show our real and deep appreciation and gratitude to our colleagues but every now and again it is just a fun thing to do, to get us all together and enjoy each other’s company.
