Granby's Charity Partners and Support Overview

At Granby, we are deeply committed to our social responsibility and to making a meaningful contribution to the communities in which we operate.

We are proud to support a number of local charities that deliver vital services to those who need them most. These partnerships reflect our core values of being agile, curious, resilient, respectful, safe, solution-focused and supportive. These core values underpin everything that we do.

Our team actively seeks out opportunities to engage with and support these organisations, whether through fundraising initiatives, such as sponsored physical challenges, or by sponsoring events that help raise awareness and visibility for their causes.

We believe in fostering a community that is supported, connected, and empowered—and we take great pride in knowing that our charitable efforts play a part in making that possible.

  • Lancashire Mind

Lancashire Mind

Lancashire Mind is a local mental health charity. Their mission is to create a county where everyone can achieve the best possible mental health and well-being. Their valuable support services are available to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The team consistently organises fundraising and awareness events to promote and share their services.

About Lancashire Mind

Lancashire Mind is an independent mental health charity in Chorley. It sits under the national ‘Mind’ charity. Due to their ability to cater their services to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, Lancashire Mind offers a wide range of prevention-focused services across the county.

Some of these services include well-being coaching, therapeutic support, housing assistance and mental health training in the workplace. Their focus is on:

  • Connecting Minds: Showing people that they aren’t alone and things can get better
  • Supporting Minds: Delivering tailored services to meet local needs
  • Changing Minds: Reducing stigma and promoting mental health literacy

At Granby, we are passionate about exploring new ways to support our team’s workplace well-being, with many of our team members having completed mental health training at work.

We have supported Lancashire Mind for many years and are proud to share that our Managing Director, Caroline, is a Trustee for the charity.

Lancashire Mind recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a roadshow event, sharing valuable well-being tips at various pop-ups around the county. As a proud sponsor, Granby was pleased to support Lancashire Mind in extending their reach and impact through visits to community spaces and schools. These initiatives play a vital role in promoting mental health awareness and support at a grassroots level, something we are proud to champion.

Additionally, we were honoured to host an on-site visit from the Lancashire Mind team, allowing us to give something back to our employees.

To ensure our employees are well supported, Granby has 11 trained Health Champions within the team, who can serve as a listening ear and offer helpful advice to those who need it. Our Operations Director, Andrew Gregson, has successfully completed training to become a Mental Health First Aider. We also have our Health Assured app, where employees can access confidential mental health support.

Speed of Sight is an impactful charity providing life-changing driving experiences for people with disabilities. Their services cater to both children and adults, aiming to promote confidence, inclusion, and well-being. The driving experiences are designed to show participants what is possible, empowering them to overcome challenges and embrace new opportunities.

About Speed of Sight

Mike Newman, Speed of Sight Founder, was born completely blind. From a very young age, Mike wanted to become a racing car driver. Being blind, he didn’t think that would ever be possible. Here he is, years later, with 8 world records! Consisting of 6 land speed records, 1 water speed record and 1 aerobatic record.

Mike has truly brought his dreams to life, and since 2012, he has been providing others with the same incredible opportunities. Speed of Sight offers driving experiences designed for individuals with visual, cognitive, or physical disabilities, utilising eight specially adapted cars with dual controls. These experiences are available throughout the UK, both on racing tracks and at off-road venues, ensuring excitement for all participants.

By sharing Mike’s story, Speed of Sight aims to build self-esteem, encourage social interaction and promote positive physical and mental health. Mike is an inspiration to everyone, showing what can be possible.

They pride themselves on their dynamic approach, allowing the young people who visit to shape the future of the youth zone. The Blackburn with Darwen Youth Zone is located inside a £5 million facility in the heart of Blackburn. They have invested over £1.7 million into their youth zone, with an incredible 50% of the costs financed by local businesses.

The youth zone is open 7 days a week and offers up to 20 activities every evening. Over 1000 people utilise their services every single week, due to their excellent facilities and low membership fees.

The services provided at the Blackburn with Darwen Youth Zone include aspirational activities, skills workshops and employment support. They also run a number of sports, arts and mentoring activities. The youth zone focuses on four strategic pillars:

  • Social Integration
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Aspirations
  • Skills and Employment

As a business, Granby is passionate about supporting employment pathways and promoting development opportunities for local young people. We regularly work alongside Blackburn College and regularly invite selected students for work experience, internship and apprenticeship.
