Our Stepping Stones team say it’s time to GROW

The GROW coaching model is a popular structured framework used in business coaching to help individuals and teams set and achieve their goals. GROW stands for Goal, Reality, Options, and Way Forward.

Last week, our intrepid team of Kayleigh, Niamh, Lisa and Dillon encountered the GROW coaching model for setting and achieving goals on the Stepping Stones training programme. This was all part of the programme’s penultimate session with our team leader, Rachel Haslam from Team Academy.

Kayleigh had this to say

The GROW model helped us uncover the hidden problems and find real solutions. With Rach’s guidance, we learned the power of shifting our mindset from problems to solutions, a skill that can drive progress in both work and life.”

Here’s a breakdown of each step:

  1. Goal: This step involves clarifying the desired outcome or goal that the individual or team wants to achieve. It’s important to make the goal specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
  2. Reality: In this step, the individual or team assesses the current reality or situation. They identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) that may impact their ability to achieve the goal. This step helps to gain a clear understanding of the current situation and any obstacles that need to be addressed.
  3. Options: Once the current reality is understood, the individual or team explores different options and strategies to achieve the goal. This step involves brainstorming and considering various possibilities, evaluating their pros and cons, and selecting the most suitable options.
  4. Way Forward: In the final step, the individual or team creates a plan of action to move forward towards the goal. This includes setting specific tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities, as well as identifying any necessary resources or support needed. Regular review and evaluation of progress are also important in this step.

Niamh added;

“By embracing GROW and shifting our mindset from problems to solutions, something we at Granby are already very much focused on, we can look to add real value to any challenge, personal and professional.”
