Meet Our New Apprentice, Jack Hurst
Meet Our New Apprentice, Jack Hurst: Granby is thrilled to welcome Jack Hurst, our new apprentice, to the client services team and reception. At just 20 years old, Jack brings a unique blend of experience and enthusiasm to our company. He will soon be starting a Business Level 3 course at Blackburn College, adding to his existing qualifications in IT and Public Services at Level 2.
Jack’s Journey
Jack’s journey to Granby has been diverse. He previously attended Myerscough College, where he pursued a course in animal care. Although he has a soft spot for animals, Jack realised that he preferred a work environment that was cleaner! And warmer! His time at Myerscough was followed by a transformative experience with the Prince’s Trust, which Jack says significantly helped him improve his communication skills, especially in managing his autism.
Jack chose Blackburn College after an assessment revealed that a business course aligned well with his skills and future aspirations. At the same time the apprenticeship opportunity with Granby came up. jack says the opportunity to combine learning with real hands-on experience was too good to pass up. He is truly excited about the job and course, as he enjoys college and this apprenticeship at Granby allows Jack to study at College one day a week.
Jack at Granby
Understandably, Jack says he was a little nervous about the interview but with some mentoring from Nic Rogan his interview with Victoria Pittman went smoothly, and as Jack puts it “I was relaxed and calm”.
jack is currently in the training phase of his apprenticeship. His responsibilities include checking emails, greeting our wonderful clients and supporting the business development team with mini projects.
He also collaborated with last year’s apprentice, now full-time team member, Declan Talbot, on the autumn job fair.
Ambitions
Jack’s initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive. He appreciates the relaxed, calm, and professional atmosphere at Granby. His long-term ambitions lie in the business sector. And he dreams of moving overseas, with Canada being a particular point of interest.
By investing in the development of promising and talented individuals like Jack, we are looking to not only enhance our current team’s capabilities but to build skills within our local community. In the longer term, this we hope this will help create a network of skilled team players. One that will act as ambassadors for Granby, even globally.
Our Granby Academy plays a crucial role in this, offering employees opportunities for personal and professional development. From GCSEs and apprenticeships to professional body qualifications, the academy nurtures confidence, ambition, and a passion for lifelong learning. We are immensely proud of the scheme and the successes of its participants, who have shown remarkable potential and growth.
Welcome to the team, Jack! We are excited to see you thrive and contribute to Granby’s success.
