Celebrating Granby’s Lancashire Skills Pledge: Last Friday, Caroline Noblett and Nicola Rogan of Granby had the privilege of attending the Lancashire Skills Pledge Celebration event.
The Lancashire Skills Pledge initiative
The Lancashire Skills Pledge initiative recognises organisations like ours who are committed to supporting skills and employment initiatives in our community across Lancashire.
Caroline had this to say “We, and the other businesses at the event, are all proud to be part of this incredible initiative and are excited to see the positive change it brings to our community. We were honoured to be thanked for our commitment and left the event inspired to do even more.”
Busiensses can engage with up to eight pledges. If you’re curious, you can find more information here. So far, an impressive 1363 skills pledges have been registered, coming from 377 different businesses!
What is a pledge?
Through the Lancashire Skills Pledge, employers are encouraged to commit to investing in the skills of their workforce. They can do this by offering apprenticeships, work placements, and training programs. This not only benefits the individuals by enhancing their employability but also helps businesses to develop a skilled and productive workforce.
As part of our commitment, we have already signed up for two pledges: work experience and industry placements and taking on apprentices.
But we’re not stopping there! We are actively working towards two more pledges: becoming an apprenticeship ambassador and recruiting Lancashire people.
Lancashire Devolution
In addition, the event discussed plans for Lancashire Devolution. In November 2023, the Government announced its willingness to enter into a devolution deal with Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and Blackpool Council. This deal will transfer new money and powers from central Government to a newly created Combined County Authority. This will allow the CCA to tackle key local priorities. You can read more on Lancashire devolution here.
