Granby’s Social Value report 2023: Our data for the impact we’ve made in 2023 is in! We have been developing our Social Value policies and how we measure them for the past four years – and we’ll be updating and publishing our results annually. Social Value is an important topic for us:
- We are a member of public sector procurement frameworks like the Crown Commercial Service and KCS, for a range of 3PL services including fulfilment, kitting, reverse logistics and asset tracking.
- Granby is an employee owned business. Granby take in Social Value, Net Zero, corporate social responsibility and sustainability into our approach to business.
Social Value themes – the definitions
- COVID-19 recovery – to help local communities manage and recover from the impact of Covid-19.
- Tackling economic inequality – to increase supply chain resilience and capacity, and create new jobs and skills.
- Information Security – to mitigate and manage cyber security risks to the market, industry, sector and country (a sub-section of ‘Tackling economic inequality’).
- Fighting climate change – effective stewardship of the environment.
- Equal opportunities – to reduce the disability employment gap and tackle workplace inequality by helping people.
- Wellbeing – to improve health and wellbeing, and community integration.
As a member of public sector procurement frameworks like CCS and KCS, Social Value is something we take seriously.
Social Value: what we achieved in 2023
1: Continued COVID-19 recovery
- 1 new employee on-board who had lost their previous job due to Covid
- 4 full-time staff members are still remote working
- 7 staff are now working from home part time
- 1 COVID risk assessment review completed
2: Tackling economic inequality
- 5 staff members attained formal qualifications with our support
- 87% of staff feel their training needs are met
- 5 staff enrolled on courses at Blackburn College

3: Information security
- 2 trade body memberships – LRQA (global assurance partner) and BSI (global business improvement partner)
- 3 IS certificates held
ISO certifications
- ISO9001 – Quality
- ISO14001 – Environment
- ISO27001 – Information Security
- ISO13485 – Medical Devices
- ISO22301 – Business Continuity
ISO certifications are international standards for best practice in relation to management systems and the way an organisation organises itself. This ensures businesses have objectives, values, policies and defined procedures that are reviewed and subject to continual improvement. Our ISOs are all certified by external auditors at least every 3 years with annual assessment days for each one.
4: Fighting Climate change
- 86.5% sustainable packaging sources.
- We recycled 82.9% of stock. This is stock we were asked to dispose of.
- We upcycled a further 16% through donation or business utilisation.
- Creation of a carbon reduction plan and progress report (this is repeated annually).
We now source 86.5% of our packaging from sustainable sources. In 2022, we banished single use plastics by investing in new equipment and processes.
EcoVadis
Granby appear in the top 5% of businesses assessed by EcoVadis. Criteria for this are:

- Sustainable Procurement
We have held this certification since we were first assessed in 2021.

Employee owned: underpinning Social Value
One particular development in 2022 was that Granby became an employee owned business. In doing so, we secured the position of the business as a trusted 3PL fulfilment partner, as well as our vision of a business that adds measurable value on many levels, including commercial profitability and Social Value.
