Granby’s Social Value and Carbon Report 2024 exemplifies our dedication to integrating social and environmental responsibility into our logistics business operations.

As an employee-owned company, we have spent the past five years refining our Social Value and Carbon reduction programmes, ensuring they align with our core values of sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and net zero ambitions. Our annual updates reflect our progress and commitment to transparency. Our achievements underscore our commitment to creating a positive impact on our community and workforce. Through strategic partnerships and continuous improvement, Granby is dedicated to fostering a sustainable and inclusive future.

Social Value Report

Granby’s Social Value Position

We have been developing our Social Value policies and how we measure them for the past five years – and we update and publish our results annually. Social Value is an important topic for us:

Employee Ownership

Granby is an employee owned 3PL business. Granby take Social Value, Net Zero, corporate social responsibility and sustainability into our approach to business. Since becoming an employee-owned business in 2022, reinforced our dedication to social value, providing employees with a greater stake in our collective success.

5 Key Social Value Themes

  1. Tackling Economic Inequality– to increase supply chain resilience and capacity and create new jobs and skills.
  2. Equal Opportunities– to reduce the disability employment gap and tackle workplace inequality by helping people.
  3. Wellbeing– to improve health and wellbeing, and community integration.
  4. Information Security– to mitigate and manage cyber security risks to the market, industry, sector and country
  5. Fighting Climate Change– effective stewardship of the environment.

Tackling Economic Inequality

Employment and Workforce Development

At Granby, our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a supportive work environment is evident in our impressive employee retention rate of 96.4% for full-time staff this year.

We are very proud to have been nominated for two prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Awards, recognising our dedication to employees with the Learning & Development nomination, and as finalists in the HR Person of the Year category. Our focus on workforce development is further highlighted by independent research, which shows that 84% of our employees feel they have access to valuable development and learning resources, and an equal percentage believe their performance evaluations are conducted fairly.

This year, we have made significant investments in education and training, with five employees achieving formal industry qualifications, 16 staff members enrolling at Blackburn College, and three apprentices joining our warehouse, finance, and client services teams. These efforts underscore our commitment to empowering our workforce and ensuring their growth and success within Granby.

Equal Opportunities

At Granby, our dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace is a cornerstone of our operation. As a proud holder of the Disability Confident Committed Employer award, we actively participate in the Government’s initiative to transform perceptions and practices around disability in the workplace. This year, we are pleased to report that we have employed four staff members with declared disabilities, reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity.

Our workforce is a vibrant tapestry of diversity, encompassing individuals from five different nationalities and four declared religions. Carbon Report 2024

Granby’s Commitment to Net Zero Emissions by 2050

Granby is dedicated to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, with an ambitious interim goal of reducing output emissions by 40% by the end of 2025. As of 2024, we have already achieved a 31% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. This has been reduxced from 131.06 tonnes in 2021 to 90.49 tonnes. This progress highlights our commitment and puts us well on track to meet our 40% reduction target.

Understanding Our Carbon Footprint

Our carbon footprint is calculated by comparing the total minutes worked throughout the year against our carbon output. In 2024, the standardised figure was 1.820, showing a 7% decrease from 2023 and a 31% decrease from 2021. This metric helps us understand and manage our emissions more effectively.

2024 Summary

Total weight of carbon produced by Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions comes to 90.492kg or 90.49 Tonnes

Breakdown of Emissions

Scope 1: Direct Emission Sources

  • Fuel Combustion (Gas)
  • Company Vehicles Fuel
  • Fork Lift Trucks

Scope 2: Indirect Emission Sources

  • Purchased Electricity for Business Use

Scope 3: Supply Chain Emission Sources

  • Our carrier partners are working towards providing meaningful Scope 3 statistics, and we aim to supply these metrics soon.

Baseline Emissions

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. These emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Future Measures

To further reduce emissions, we plan to:

  • Improve building insulation by replacing key roof areas
  • Install automatic shutter doors on warehouses
  • Provide detailed Scope 3 figures related to emissions from dispatching consignments across the country

Granby remains committed to sustainability and is continuously exploring innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Granby’s Social Value and Carbon Report 2024 highlights our unwavering commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

Over the past year, we have made significant strides in employment, diversity, employee well-being, and sustainability, reinforcing our dedication to creating a positive impact on our community and workforce.

As an employee-owned business, we continue to prioritise social value, net zero goals, and corporate responsibility, ensuring that our employees have a stake in our collective success.
