Granby’s Cybersecurity Strategy
Granby’s Cybersecurity Strategy. At Granby, we acknowledge the many potential cyber threats that exist and understand the importance of vigilance. We are proud to announce that we have recently renewed our Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditations, a testament to our commitment to maintaining robust cybersecurity measures.
These certifications are not just badges of honour for Granby; they are critical components of our strategy to protect our operations and ensure the safety and integrity of our systems, and our customer data.
Paul Dunleavy, our Head of IT, expressed his satisfaction with the recertification process, stating,
“Really pleased with how quick and painless our re-certification has been this year and having Seriun’s support and cyber packages means there were no unexpected issues when renewing this vital accreditation.”
This seamless process underscores the effectiveness of our ongoing partnership with Seriun, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions.
The real threat remains individuals
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses across all sectors are increasingly leveraging technological advancements to enhance efficiency and drive growth. At Granby, we are no exception. From automation and predictive maintenance to IoT applications and intelligent transport systems, these innovations are revolutionising our operations for the better, enabling us to deliver superior services and achieve greater sustainability.
It is important to note that these advancements do not pose an increased cyber threat to our business, as we build in security measures from the beginning and constantly test and reinforce those measures.
As with any business, the real threat posed is from the potential for cyber-attacks targeting our people through outside interactions. So, we have to remain vigilant and proactive in our cybersecurity efforts, ensuring that all our staff are well-trained and aware of potential threats.
The Phishing Cyber Threat
Worldwide, cyber threats such as phishing attacks, ransomware, and data breaches are becoming more sophisticated, targeting vulnerabilities within systems and, more critically, people.
One of the most common ways cyber criminals gain access to sensitive information is through phishing attacks. These attacks often target individuals, posing as everyday business messages to compromise accounts or introduce malicious software. We are very aware that the highest probability of an IT or information breach will most often stem from human error, making it imperative to focus not just on technological defences but also employee awareness
Combating Phishing and Enhancing Employee Awareness
Paul Dunleavy emphasises the importance of this approach:
“Cyber essentials will identify weaknesses in security posture, but prevention is always better than cure. Therefore, we have a regime of testing the staff and issuing training as required.”
By continuously educating our employees and reinforcing best practices, we aim to create a culture of cybersecurity awareness. One that extends beyond our IT department. Most importantly we have implemented a comprehensive prevention solution that includes a phishing simulation service. This tests our employees’ awareness of phishing attacks by sending simulated phishing emails. And then providing feedback on who is at the highest risk of sharing their passwords and who requires further training.
Proactive Measures and Industry Collaboration
In addition to our internal efforts, we recognise the growing importance of industry collaboration in combating cyber threats. The insurance industry is increasingly focusing on businesses that hold and process personal or sensitive data. They are making proactive measures and certifications like Cyber Essentials a must-have for many businesses. This is the case even at the SME level. By staying ahead of the curve and adopting industry best practices, we not only protect our own operations but also contribute to the broader effort to enhance cybersecurity across the sector.
Conclusion
As we continue to embrace technological advancements, Granby remains steadfast in our commitment to robust cybersecurity. We understand that the digitalisation of logistics brings both opportunities and challenges. We are dedicated to addressing these challenges head-on. Through our renewed Cyber Essentials accreditations, ongoing employee training, and strategic partnerships, we are well-equipped to navigate the cyber risks of today and tomorrow.
At Granby, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and their safety and security are paramount. By fostering a culture of vigilance and continuous improvement, we ensure that we can continue to deliver exceptional services while safeguarding our operations against cyber threats.
