Embracing AI and Cybersecurity: Granby’s Forward-Thinking Approach
Embracing AI and Cybersecurity: In the ever-evolving world of technology, staying ahead of the curve is not just an advantage but a necessity. Paul Dunleavy, Head of IT at Granby, exemplifies this forward-thinking approach. Recently, Paul participated in an AI course that took a deep dive into the vast opportunities AI presents for businesses.

The course was a blend of seminars and hands-on exercises. It was led by a presenter with experience working alongside a number of tech giants as well as the super high-tech world of Formula 1. This means he could offered a unique perspective on the intersection of technology and innovation.
The World’s Most Valuable Commodity is Data
One of the most striking insights from the course was the recognition of data as the world’s most valuable commodity, surpassing even oil. Forbes has highlighted this shift, emphasising the critical role of both structured and unstructured data in implementing effective AI strategies. For businesses like Granby, this means taking the time to constantly review our value proposition and unique selling points through the lens of data utilisation.

The Future
Paul envisions a future where distinguishing between human and AI interactions becomes increasingly challenging. And this will happen whether through text, conversation, or video.

Paul says, “We will soon be reaching a point where it is impossible to tell whether you are conversing with a human or AI whether through a text chat, conversation or video. This brings with it some increased risk in terms of cyber security and placing trust in these sources.”
Cyber Essentials Accreditation
This evolution brings with it heightened risks in terms of both cybersecurity and trust. At Granby, embracing AI and cybersecurity, data security and cyber resilience are top priorities. In 2024 Granby renewed its Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditations, underscoring our commitment to safeguarding operations and customer data.

At the time, Paul expressed satisfaction with the seamless recertification process, attributing its success to the partnership with Seriun, a leading cybersecurity solutions provider. This collaboration ensures that Granby remains vigilant against potential cyber threats, particularly those targeting individuals through external interactions.
Cybersecurity: A Pillar of Granby’s Strategy
In today’s digital age, the threat of cyber-attacks looms large, with phishing attacks, ransomware, and data breaches becoming increasingly sophisticated. Granby recognizes that the most significant vulnerabilities often stem from human error, making employee awareness and training paramount.
Paul Dunleavy emphasises a proactive approach to cybersecurity, stating, “Cyber essentials will identify weaknesses in security posture, but prevention is always better than cure.”
Prevention
Granby has implemented a comprehensive prevention solution, including a phishing simulation service that tests employees’ awareness and provides feedback for further training.
Best Practices
Beyond internal efforts, Granby acknowledges the importance of industry collaboration in combating cyber threats. The insurance industry, for instance, is increasingly mandating proactive measures and certifications like Cyber Essentials, even for SMEs. By adopting industry best practices, Granby not only protects its operations but also contributes to the broader effort to enhance cybersecurity across the sector.
Embracing Tech Innovation
As Granby continues to embrace technological advancements, its commitment to robust cybersecurity remains unwavering. Through renewed accreditations, ongoing employee training, and strategic partnerships, Granby is well-equipped to navigate the cyber risks of today and tomorrow. At the heart of Granby’s operations are its people, whose safety and security are paramount. By fostering a culture of vigilance and continuous improvement, Granby ensures the delivery of exceptional services while safeguarding against cyber threats.
