Packaging Innovations 2025 Show: A Milestone Event

Packaging Innovations 2025 Show: A Milestone Event. This month, the Packaging Innovation 2025 Show at the NEC marked a significant milestone. For the first time, the event welcomed over 7,000 visitors. This surge in attendance highlights the growing interest and importance of packaging innovations.

What is the Packaging Innovations Show?

The Packaging Innovation Show is an annual premier event that brings together industry leaders, innovators, and professionals from the packaging sector. It serves as a platform for showcasing the latest advancements and innovation in packaging technology, design, and sustainability. Attendees have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge solutions, network with key stakeholders, and gain insights into emerging trends.

The show features a diverse range of exhibitors, live demonstrations, and informative sessions, making it an essential gathering for anyone involved in packaging. It highlights our industry’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, driving progress and collaboration across the packaging value chain.

BCMPA and outsourcing

The British Contract Manufacturers and Packers Association (BCMPA) celebrated its 25th anniversary with the launch of the #outsourcingis campaign at the show. This initiative aims to illuminate the transformative benefits of outsourcing in contract manufacturing, packing, fulfilment, and logistics.

Emma Verkaik, BCMPA’s chief executive, highlighted the campaign’s objective to bridge the knowledge gap about outsourcing’s strategic advantages. The campaign will feature insights and video vox-pops from BCMPA members, showcasing the diverse outsourcing services available across sectors like food and drink, personal care, and pharmaceuticals.

“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’re excited to highlight how outsourcing remains a key driver of innovation and efficiency in the industry” Emma Verkaik, BCMPA

A dedicated social media handle will foster engagement from members and a wider audience. At the show, visitors to the BCMPA stand were offered practical guidance on selecting outsourcing partners. And tehre were live demonstrations of the Association’s online search platform. This platform aims to help businesses find tailored solutions, enhancing collaboration and innovation in the industry.

BCMPA, Co-packing and Dragon’s Den

Fantastic to see Peter Jones on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den (Series 22 Episode 7), endorsing co packing as the way to go!

Granby, along with the BCMPA, were delighted to hear him echo the very core of the #outsourcingis campaign and highlight how outsourcing is a complete game-changer for business.

In last night’s episode, at the 50-minute mark, Peter’s advice for contestants to move away from in-house production and embrace co-packers is spot on! Co-packing is a powerful solution for increasing capacity, boosting efficiency, and driving growth. And it does so without the heavy overhead of maintaining large-scale production in-house. At Granby this is a major part of the work we deliver for major, leading household brands every day of the year.

The  BCMPA have always advocated for the value that co-packing brings to both small and large businesses alike. Even for big brands, outsourcing production allows for more focus on innovation, marketing, and other core business areas, while the co-packer handles the complex logistics of production.

The reality is, in today’s tough business environment, co-packing is more than just a convenience. It’s often essential for sustainability and growth.

Defra’s Launch of PackUK

At the show, Defra made a notable announcement. They discussed the launch of PackUK, a scheme run by Defra on behalf of the four UK nations. This initiative aims to support businesses in reducing packaging usage and advancing the UK’s circular economy goals. Mary Creagh MP, Minister for Nature, chaired a panel with key industry representatives. She emphasised the importance of collaboration in achieving fair and efficient delivery of the scheme.

“We are in the middle of a very big system change. We are starting on this journey together with goodwill and everyone wanting to do the right thing.” Mary Creagh, MP. Minister for Nature

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging

PackUK has been created in response to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging, a policy aimed at making producers more accountable for the environmental impact of their packaging. Under this scheme, producers are required to cover the costs of managing packaging waste, from collection to recycling or disposal. The initiative encourages companies to design more sustainable packaging, reduce waste, and increase recycling rates. By shifting financial responsibility to producers, the EPR aims to incentivise eco-friendly practices. It also aims to reduce the environmental footprint of packaging, ultimately contributing to a circular economy in the UK.

Granby’s commitment to Sustainability

Granby is aligned with these sustainability goals and in our latest Social Value report we share that 100% of our packaging is FSC registered. This commitment reflects their dedication to environmental sustainability in purchasing decisions.

Inclusivity in Packaging: A Growing Focus

Inclusivity in packaging is another area that is becoming increasingly important. At Granby, we look to integrate accessibility, sustainability, and readability from the planning stage. This approach supports our mission to deliver top-tier fulfilment solutions while respecting all of our communities. In September last year, during London Packaging Week at the ExCeL Centre, Granby participated in a panel discussion on inclusive packaging. Hosted by Waqas Qureshi, editor of Packaging News, the panel shared insights on the future of inclusive packaging, emphasising the need for a collaborative and multifaceted approach to innovation.

Conclusion: A Dynamic Future for Packaging

The packaging industry is certainly full of innovation and energy. From sustainability initiatives like PackUK to the focus on inclusivity, the future looks promising. As businesses and governments collaborate, the packaging world is set to evolve, meeting the needs of a changing world.
