It’s a Sustainable September at Granby

It’s a Sustainable September at Granby

Granby is proud to be an eco-conscious fulfilment partner with a wide range of sustainability initiatives in place. Today, customers expect sustainable fulfilment as a standard, not a bonus. For brands, this creates pressure to reduce environmental impact while still meeting commercial and operational goals.

With over 65 years of experience across third-party logistics (3PL), contract packing and promotional marketing, we are well-positioned to help brands rise to this challenge. From reducing packaging waste to maintaining organic certification, our team ensures that sustainable practices are embedded into fulfilment and campaign delivery. This September, we are celebrating two key initiatives: Organic September and Zero Waste Week, as part of our year-round commitment to responsible operations.

Organic September

Organic September is a month-long celebration in the UK, hosted by the UK Soil Association. This year’s theme focuses on the connection between healthy soil and healthy food.

The organisation aims to raise awareness about the process of growing healthy plants, leading to nutritious food. Since they were founded 75 years ago, they have introduced many sustainable initiatives focused on farming, food and forestry.

Granby became recertified by the Organic Soil Association, the UK’s leading organic certifier, earlier this year. They are responsible for ensuring that products meet stringent organic standards. Today, it is the UK’s largest organic certifier, ensuring that farming, food production, and supply chains meet strict environmental and ethical criteria.

Zero Waste Week

Zero Waste Week is taking place from the 1st to the 5th of September, and provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on the steps that we can all take to reduce waste and protect the planet.

Everyone is encouraged to celebrate the week by setting at least one goal to reduce landfill waste and then taking action. This award-winning event has been held annually since 2008. While efforts during the week can make a difference, people are encouraged to continue building better habits throughout the year.

Why sustainable fulfilment matters for brands

Sustainability in logistics is no longer optional. For brands, it directly impacts operational resilience, consumer trust, and compliance with evolving regulations. By embedding sustainable practices into fulfilment, such as eco-friendly packaging and efficient returns management, brands can reduce costs while strengthening their reputation.

Consumers increasingly expect transparency around packaging and supply chains. Sustainable fulfilment provides a tangible way to demonstrate this commitment. Partnering with a 3PL provider that prioritises sustainability ensures these goals are achievable at scale.

Granby’s support

As a leading complete brand fulfilment partner, we are committed to supporting our clients on their journey to become more sustainable. We work closely with brands to reduce their environmental impact through operations and packaging.

Organic

Organic certification extends beyond the farm. Logistics and packing must prevent contamination and preserve traceability. The Soil Association’s certification resources outline controls such as segregated storage, documented cleaning, and labelled production runs. Our teams operate with these principles whilst handling organic lines and during value-added services like kitting, personalisation and gift assembly. That way, sustainability messaging is backed by compliant fulfilment.

At Granby, this certification highlights our unwavering commitment to maintaining an organic supply chain for ourselves and our clients. Ensuring our clients’ products meet the highest standards of sustainability and quality. Read more about our recertification here.

Zero waste

Granby is on a mission to become net-zero by 2050, and a large part of this involves reducing waste on our site. On our journey to achieve this goal, we have eliminated single-use plastics across all our sites. We only use FSC-certified cardboard and paper parcel tape in place of plastic tape.

Additionally, we shred and repurpose all recycled materials so they can be used for protective packaging.

Operationally, we reduce waste through accurate picking, the right-sized packaging and returns prevention. Where returns do happen, our reverse logistics process accelerates resale or recovery; not only protecting the margin but also reducing disposal. Studies show efficient reverse flows recapture value and keep materials in use longer. Read more about our reverse logistics solutions here.

In addition to the sustainability initiatives we have already mentioned, we have our own Net Zero Working Group. This group meets regularly to discuss our environmental impact and explore ways to reduce it. Having the group in place enables us to set future-conscious goals and ensure that sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do.

At Granby, we work closely with you to support your environmental and sustainability goals, ensuring they’re seamlessly integrated into your operations.

When you choose to partner with us, we become an extension of your existing team – providing dedicated expertise, proactive support, and tailored solutions that help you achieve measurable results without adding complexity.
