Celebrating World Environment Day

Celebrating World Environment Day Granby

Thursday, the 5th of June, marks World Environment Day. This year’s theme focuses on ending plastic pollution, and the celebrations will be hosted by the Republic of Korea.

Plastic pollution has a terrible impact on all areas of the world. As inhabitants, we are the only ones who can make a stand against using plastic for products.

Not only does plastic impact wildlife, sea animals and the environment, but it’s also found in many food items and the water we drink. Excess plastic can be harmful to humans, but there are simple steps we can all take to reduce plastic pollution and promote a more sustainable future.

Our environmental efforts

At Granby, we recognise the importance of our role in environmental efforts. We regularly support clients with contract packing, highlighting the need to support sustainability and promote the use of recyclable materials.

Granby is an employee-owned business, meaning that our employees are extremely dedicated to protecting the future of our company. One of the ways we achieve this is through our ongoing commitment to protecting the planet and the environment.

ISO 14001

This year marks 17 years of Granby continuously holding its ISO 14001 certification. The requirements of this standard enable us to promote a sustainable future for ourselves and others worldwide. It means that we can ensure an efficient use of our resources and reduce waste. This certification enables us to remain competitive in our industry while also allowing us to pass these environmental benefits on to our clients.

EcoVadis Sustainability Rating

We are proud to display our silver rating from EcoVadis. They provide a holistic sustainability rating that encompasses our entire business activity, covering a broad range of non-financial management systems, including environmental, labour & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement impacts.

We achieved a score of 69 and are in the top 10% of companies assessed by EcoVadis.

This scoring system is extremely effective, as it also provides guidance on areas for improvement, enabling us to focus our sustainability efforts and develop valuable action plans.

How Granby supports the environment

Banning single-use plastics

We are all aware of the dangers of plastic pollution, and banning single-use plastics has a significant impact on the planet. At Granby, we no longer use bubble wrap and other single-use plastics. We shred paper in-house and are always looking for new ways to reduce plastic in the workplace.

Sourcing sustainable materials

In a bid to minimise our environmental impact, we now exclusively use FSC-certified cardboard, which is 100% recycled. We have also replaced plastic tape and only use paper parcel tape for order packing.

Net Zero working group

Granby has an operational Net Zero working group to support our sustainability efforts. Having this group enables us to remain focused and identify new ways to support sustainability. The group is a permanent part of our culture at Granby, and we continue to set new goals for the future.

Our plans for supporting the environment

At Granby, we aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In order to fulfil this commitment, we aim to reduce output emissions by 40% by the end of 2025.

The 2024 carbon output of 90.49kg shows a 7% decrease from 2023 and a 31% decrease from 2021. We are well on our way to achieving our net-zero goal.

We continue to make changes within our practices, such as reducing the number of face-to-face meetings we hold, changing to electric vehicles, improving insulation and adding automatic shutter doors to our warehouses. Find out more about sustainability at Granby.
